OPERA IN THE OZARKS

Inspiration Point overlooks the White River valley creating one of the most idyllic scenes. In 1950, Dr. Henry Hobart, former Dean of Fine Arts at Phillips University, was contacted with regard to starting a summer music camp on the grounds. With the support of Gertrude Stockard, Director of Music at Eureka Springs High School, Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony came into being during that summer.

The first Fine Arts colony session was held in 1950 for four weeks. The camp was originally patterned as most other camps with a variety of the performing arts. However, Dr. Hobart and Ms. Stockard wanted something different and distinctive, and decided to make Inspiration Point into an opera or music drama summer workshop. All opera roles would be performed in their entirety by the students; no lead singers would be brought in to sing the principal roles. The theme of Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony would be “The students are the stars”.

LAKE LEATHERWOOD BIKE TRAILS

The steep and ledgy hillsides of Lake Leatherwood trails make the Eureka Springs park ripe for downhill-only trails. There are seven of them, each about a mile long. For a fee, which goes to maintaining the trails, a shuttle sprints riders and their bikes up the mountain to two stone platforms that serve as the launching pads for each descent. There are smooth, flowing trails for beginners, technical rocky downhills for intermediate riders, and massive jumps and drops for the experts, including the so-called “lily pad.”

Riders can also take in the 1,600-acre park on the other 25 miles of challenging cross-country trails built and developed over the last two decades, largely thanks to volunteer advocacy and labor. The system weaves up and down the hillsides and takes visitors around Lake Leatherwood to one of the must-see spots: the 1940s limestone dam built by the Works Progress Administration created by the New Deal.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS LOG-CABIN

The main house is a 5500 sq ft custom built home with amazing woodworking. The attention to detail is beyond words with jewels embedded in the stone walls, stain glass windows, and custom wood sliding doors. And that's just the inside.... Step outside on any one of the decks overlooking the Beaver Lake Dam and enjoy fresh air and beautiful sunsets.

Moonstone in Eureka Springs is a peaceful resort-like property that screams the Eureka Springs artisitc vibe. The first time I walked through the log cabin what I remember most is that 1) I couldn't stop looking up and 2) I probably said "Oh my gosh that is so cool" about a hundred times. To say Moonstone is a unique home is an understatement. The original owner that had the home custom built paid close attention to every last detail. From the ornate sliding doors in the primary suite to the overhead garage door in the guestroom that opens to the back deck. And the views are absolutely stunning!!! The property is located off Dam Site road in Eureka Springs and overlooks the Beaver Dam on Beaver Lake.

So let me take you on a tour of this home. First is the native Arkansas stone steps leading up to the covered patio. The patio is appropriately decorated with magnificent custom wood built benches. As you open the door and walk into the living room the first thing you see is a 180 degree view of Beaver Lake. And the fireplace is like nothing I have ever seen. It is the perfect combination of stacked natural stone and preserved trees that if I had to guess came straight off this property. The metal light fixtures work perfectly alongside the custom wood stair rail. What I have been told is that this stair rail was hand selected by the original owner. She handed over a bundle of twigs and branches to the builder and said "I want my stair rail made out of this.?"

Let's venture towards the formal entry from off the courtyard. The combination of different materials provides a sincerely unique texture. The walls are a metal tin material. There are natural wood accents framing out the foyer and the stained glass windows bring it all together. The heavy hand carved doors open to an all wood dining room fit for a royal rustic dinner. The kitchen is decorated with high end commercial  grade appliances and one of a kind island, and the views from the kitchen are of glistening reflections off Beaver Lake.

Now let's head upstairs to the primary suite! If the hand crafted doors to the dining room weren't enough for you - not to fear because you get another set as you enter into your primary suite. And where do I begin with this room? Super high ceilings with a sparkling chandelier to light up the room at night. And if it's a bit chilly start up your floor to ceiling natural stone fireplace! The primary bathroom is one for the books! From the natural stone walk-in shower to the copper tub with a view of Beaver Lake... I mean come on!!

I'm sure you've heard of his / hers sinks in the primary suite right? Well in this bathroom you get that AND also his / hers lavatories. The walk-in closet is draped with custom linens. And honestly it's really more like a dressing room than a closet in my opinion. You get everything you need and more with this bedroom! If what you're looking for is some fresh air take you pick - a view of miles of trees off the porch on the front of the home or miles of Beaver Lake off the covered back deck. Either way you're welcomed with cozy chairs to rest and relax in. I'm telling yo

Three guest rooms are waiting for your friends and family. Upstairs from the primary suite is a unique set up of two bedrooms with a bathroom between the two. The closets are open and adorned with beautiful quilt curtains. There are views of the trees in one room and views of the lake in the other. Probably best to just let your guests arm wrestle it out for which view they get to wake up to. The third guest room is in what I guess I would call the basement - or maybe it's the first floor? Where ever it is -- it's super cool! Enjoy your own private bathroom and raising your garage door to step out onto your deck with 180 degree views of Beaver Lake.
